โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Keep a perimeter of at least 8 torches active within a 20-block radius to prevent hostile mob spawns during construction.
- โข Sleep in a temporary bed before nightfall to avoid phantom spawns and creeper detonations.
- โข Use dirt scaffolding rather than precarious jumping when roofing to prevent fatal early-game fall damage.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Clear and Stake the 7x7 Pillar Layout
Flatten a 9x9 area of ground using your shovel to remove grass and dirt. Place four 4-block-tall oak log pillars arranged in a square footprint, leaving 5 empty blocks of space between each corner pillar. Ensure all logs face vertically for structural consistency.
- โข Four vertical log pillars standing 4 blocks tall in a 7x7 outer square perimeter.
- โข Exactly 5 air blocks visible between the inner faces of adjacent corner logs.
- โข Counting total footprint as 7 between pillars instead of corner-to-corner, making the structure too large.
Excavate and Lay the Foundation Floor
Dig out the 5x5 dirt area bounded inside the four corner pillars to a depth of one block. Fill the excavated ground completely with oak planks to form a clean interior floor, and replace the blocks directly beneath the log pillars with cobblestone.
- โข A continuous 5x5 wooden plank floor sitting level with the outer terrain.
- โข Cobblestone footing visible beneath the oak corner logs.
- โข Leaving raw dirt beneath walls, which leads to grass spreading inside the cabin.
Erect Exterior Walls and Window Openings
Connect the top block of all corner pillars with horizontal oak logs to enclose the upper frame. Build walls using oak planks between the pillars, leaving a 2x1 centered opening on the front wall for the entrance and 1x2 centered openings on side walls for glass panes. Insert glass panes into the wall cutouts and install an oak door from the inside of the frame.
- โข Enclosed 3-block-high plank walls with framed window openings on three sides.
- โข Door installed flush with the interior side of the front threshold.
- โข Placing full glass blocks instead of panes, reducing usable interior walk space.
Construct the A-Frame Cobblestone Roof
Build temporary dirt scaffolding on the sides and place cobblestone stairs starting along the front and back wall eaves, creating an overhanging A-frame. Step each stair tier upward toward the center, placing upside-down cobblestone stairs beneath each overhang for depth, and cap the peak with cobblestone slabs. Fill the triangular wall gap under the roof gable with oak planks.
- โข A symmetrical peaked roof with a 1-block overhang extending over the front and back facade.
- โข Smooth staircase transition topped with a solid slab ridge line.
- โข Failing to place upside-down stairs under the eaves, leaving an unfinished hollow underside.
Install Lighting, Workstations, and Storage
Mount torches on the interior corner logs at head height (block level 3) to maintain light level 8 or higher across all floor tiles. Place your bed along the rear wall, flank it with a crafting table and double chest, and sink two furnaces flush into the side floor or wall for smelting efficiency.
- โข Zero dark patches on the floor (F3 light level reads 8+ everywhere inside).
- โข Bed, double chest, crafting table, and furnaces fully accessible without obstructed hitboxes.
- โข Placing chests directly under full solid blocks, which prevents the lids from opening.
Add Porch Detailing and Exterior Trim
Install two oak fence posts supporting oak leaves or lanterns on either side of the front entrance door. Place a cobblestone stair at the front door as an entryway stoop, and run wooden trapdoors as decorative window shutters along the exterior side walls.
- โข Finished front entryway with step-up access and lit fence post lanterns.
- โข Detailed exterior facade with depth created by window shutters and overhang trim.
- โข Blocking window sightlines completely with misaligned trapdoors.
