โ ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings
- โข Place torches regularly during excavation to prevent hostile mobs from spawning in dark corners.
- โข Verify redstone circuits operate cleanly before sealing wiring behind structural walls.
- โข Keep an emergency water bucket on the hotbar to neutralize sudden lava pockets while digging down.
๐ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Select Hillside and Clear Entrance Cavity
Locate a natural cliff or hillside that blends into the surrounding landscape. Dig a 2-block wide, 2-block high, and 3-block deep tunnel directly into the face of the hill. Clear a 2-block buffer area on the left and right sides inside the tunnel to house the piston machinery.
- โข A rectangular 2x2 opening cut into a natural vertical terrain wall.
- โข Internal hollowed space expanded 2 blocks to the left and right behind the front facade.
- โข Digging into flat ground instead of a vertical hillside, making flush camouflage difficult.
Install Flush 2x2 Piston Mechanism
Place 4 sticky pistons facing inward on each side of the recessed doorway, 2 blocks back from the exterior wall. Attach 2 sticky pistons facing forward on the front of each piston column to grab the camouflage facade blocks. Cover the piston faces with natural terrain blocks that perfectly match the cliff exterior.
- โข Piston arms pointing forward flush with the cliff surface when extended.
- โข Camouflage blocks matching adjacent grass/stone texture seamless with the cliff.
- โข Using regular pistons instead of sticky pistons, leaving facade blocks behind when opening.
Wire Redstone Timing and Concealed Trigger
Run redstone dust along the top of the piston assemblies connected to a redstone repeater set to 2 ticks to synchronize retraction. Route the input line to a hidden trigger outside, such as a tilled-dirt farmland switch or a lever obscured behind a dense bush. Install a matching closing lever inside the base interior.
- โข Redstone lines glowing red and pistons fully extended to seal the entrance flush with the cliff.
- โข Triggering the hidden switch pulls the 4 center blocks back and sideways smoothly.
- โข Leaving repeater delays at default 1-tick, causing the retraction sequence to jam.
Excavate the Main Living Vault
Walk through the secret door and dig out a central hall measuring 9 blocks wide, 9 blocks long, and 4 blocks high. Hollow out the entire cube, placing torches on the dirt walls every 4 blocks to maintain full illumination.
- โข A clean, symmetrical 9x9x4 rectangular underground room.
- โข Brightly lit floor and ceiling with no dark spots under light level 7.
- โข Digging into underground caves or water bodies without sealing the breach.
Frame Walls, Flooring, and Ceiling
Replace all rough dirt and stone walls with vertical stripped oak logs in the corners and smooth stone bricks across the walls. Lay down dark oak planks or polished deepslate for the floor. Install lanterns hanging from ceiling chains to create a warm, modern bunker aesthetic.
- โข Consistent patterned walls with stripped logs framing the corners.
- โข Uniform wood or polished stone floor with hanging ceiling lanterns.
- โข Leaving natural dirt patches visible behind furniture or corners.
Furnish Functional Survival Stations
Build an organized double-chest storage wall along one side with item frames labeling categories. Install an armor stand, an auto-smelter furnace array, a crafting table, and an enchanting table surrounded by 15 bookshelves in dedicated alcoves. Place a bed with nightstands in a recessed sleeping nook.
- โข Fully equipped room with designated functional zones: crafting, storage, sleeping, and smelting.
- โข No exposed mechanics or empty wall segments.
- โข Crowding crafting stations in front of the interior door switch, blocking exit access.

Don’t have everything?
- No Sticky Pistons? Regular pistons combined with slimeballs found in swamp biomes
- No Lanterns? Standard Torches or Glowstone blocks hidden behind trapdoors
- No Stripped Oak Logs? Cobblestone or Stone Bricks smelted directly from mined stone
