โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)

1

Remove Exterior Screws and Shell

Locate and remove all exterior casing screws, including any hidden beneath labels in the battery compartment. Use a plastic pry tool along the seam to release the retaining clips without snapping the plastic. Carefully separate the front and back faceplates.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Controller shell separated into two halves with all retaining clips disengaged.
  • โ€ข Removed screws collected neatly in a parts tray.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Forcing the shell open while a hidden screw is still in place.
  • โ€ข Using metal tools that mar or crack the plastic seams.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not apply excessive force near internal ribbon cables when separating the casing.
2

Disconnect Battery and Expose Motherboard

Unplug the internal battery harness from the board using plastic tweezers or fingers. Lift away the battery bracket and unscrew the internal board screws holding the main PCB to the frame. Gently lift the thumbstick caps straight up off the metal joystick posts.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Battery detached and set aside.
  • โ€ข Bare analog module mechanisms visible with plastic thumbstick caps removed.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Yanking wires directly instead of pulling the plastic battery connector.
  • โ€ข Tilting thumbstick caps sideways during removal, bending the shaft.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Never puncture or pry against the lithium-ion battery pack with sharp metal tools.
3

Access the Potentiometer Sensors

Identify the green or blue plastic potentiometer sensor housings clipped to the sides of the metal joystick module. Use a thin plastic tool or tweezers to gently unclip and pull back the outer sensor cover away from the metal housing just enough to expose the interior wiper ring.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Sensor housing swung open slightly (approx. 20-30 degrees) revealing the internal metal wiper disk.
  • โ€ข Hinge of the plastic sensor remains intact and connected at the base.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Prying the sensor back too far, snapping the plastic hinge or unsoldering pins.
  • โ€ข Deforming the delicate internal wiper ring.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Avoid excessive force to prevent tearing soldered contacts off the PCB traces.
4

Clean Potentiometer Track and Wiper

Dip a cotton swab in high-percentage isopropyl alcohol until damp, not dripping. Gently wipe the carbon resistive track inside the sensor housing and the metal wiper disk to remove accumulated dust, grease, and debris. Use compressed air to blow out dislodged grime.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Carbon track is clean and free of dark residue rings.
  • โ€ข Cotton swab tip shows pulled dirt/graphite and sensor cavity is clear.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Soaking the board with excessive pooling alcohol.
  • โ€ข Scrubbing too aggressively, stripping the carbon coating off the track.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Work in a well-ventilated area when using electronic solvents and compressed air.
5

Reseat Sensors and Reattach Thumbstick Caps

Press the plastic sensor housing firmly back against the metal module body until it clicks flush into place. Ensure the internal wiper remains aligned on its center axis. Push the plastic thumbstick caps firmly straight down onto the joystick shafts.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Potentiometer housing sits completely flush with zero gap against the metal frame.
  • โ€ข Thumbstick cap fully seated with full 360-degree range of motion and tactile click.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Failing to snap the sensor housing completely shut, leaving an air gap.
  • โ€ข Misaligning the wiper disk so it gets crushed during closure.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure no liquid solvent remains trapped inside the closed sensor housing before snapping shut.
6

Reassemble Shell and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery cable and route any internal wiring through its original cable channels. Realign the front and rear shells, pressing around the edges until all perimeter clips snap together. Reinstall all housing screws firmly and test stick centering via a gamepad tester or console calibration menu.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข No gaps along the seam line of the outer shell.
  • โ€ข All screws flush and tightened securely without stripping.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Pinching internal wires or trigger ribbons between the shell halves.
  • โ€ข Overtightening screws into plastic threads.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not use electric drills; hand-tighten only to avoid stripping screw heads or cracking plastic.
