📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Remove Exterior Screws and Shell
Locate and remove all exterior casing screws, including any hidden beneath labels in the battery compartment. Use a plastic pry tool along the seam to release the retaining clips without snapping the plastic. Carefully separate the front and back faceplates.

Disconnect Battery and Expose Motherboard
Unplug the internal battery harness from the board using plastic tweezers or fingers. Lift away the battery bracket and unscrew the internal board screws holding the main PCB to the frame. Gently lift the thumbstick caps straight up off the metal joystick posts.

Access the Potentiometer Sensors
Identify the green or blue plastic potentiometer sensor housings clipped to the sides of the metal joystick module. Use a thin plastic tool or tweezers to gently unclip and pull back the outer sensor cover away from the metal housing just enough to expose the interior wiper ring.
- • Sensor housing swung open slightly (approx. 20-30 degrees) revealing the internal metal wiper disk.
- • Hinge of the plastic sensor remains intact and connected at the base.
- • Prying the sensor back too far, snapping the plastic hinge or unsoldering pins.
- • Deforming the delicate internal wiper ring.
Clean Potentiometer Track and Wiper
Dip a cotton swab in high-percentage isopropyl alcohol until damp, not dripping. Gently wipe the carbon resistive track inside the sensor housing and the metal wiper disk to remove accumulated dust, grease, and debris. Use compressed air to blow out dislodged grime.
- • Carbon track is clean and free of dark residue rings.
- • Cotton swab tip shows pulled dirt/graphite and sensor cavity is clear.
- • Soaking the board with excessive pooling alcohol.
- • Scrubbing too aggressively, stripping the carbon coating off the track.
Reseat Sensors and Reattach Thumbstick Caps
Press the plastic sensor housing firmly back against the metal module body until it clicks flush into place. Ensure the internal wiper remains aligned on its center axis. Push the plastic thumbstick caps firmly straight down onto the joystick shafts.
- • Potentiometer housing sits completely flush with zero gap against the metal frame.
- • Thumbstick cap fully seated with full 360-degree range of motion and tactile click.
- • Failing to snap the sensor housing completely shut, leaving an air gap.
- • Misaligning the wiper disk so it gets crushed during closure.
Reassemble Shell and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery cable and route any internal wiring through its original cable channels. Realign the front and rear shells, pressing around the edges until all perimeter clips snap together. Reinstall all housing screws firmly and test stick centering via a gamepad tester or console calibration menu.
