📋 Step-by-Step Guide (7 Steps)
Remove Controller Outer Shell
Pry off decorative faceplate trim or grip panels using a plastic spudger to reveal hidden screws. Remove all external housing screws using the correct precision bit (PH00 or Torx T8/T6 Security) and carefully unclip the clamshell case.

Disconnect Battery and Ribbon Cables
Gently pull the lithium battery connector straight out of its socket by the plastic head, never by the wires. Use tweezers to release any ZIF ribbon cable latches and slip the flat ribbon cables out of their headers to free the mainboard.

Remove Thumbstick Caps and Expose Modules
Pull the plastic thumbstick cap straight up off the metal/plastic analog stick shaft. Inspect the exposed green or orange potentiometer sensor boxes mounted on the sides of the joystick module for dust, hair, or debris.

Open Potentiometer Sensor Housing
Gently pry the top retaining tab of the green/orange potentiometer box outward using fine-tip tweezers or a dental pick. Tilt the thin sensor housing open about 30 to 45 degrees away from the module body just enough to access the internal wiper disc.

Clean Carbon Tracks and Contact Wipers
Dip a cotton swab in 99% isopropyl alcohol and lightly scrub the black circular resistive track inside the housing. Use tweezers to inspect the tiny metal wiper prongs, wiping away ground-down carbon paste and dirt until the surface shines.

Reseat Wiper and Snap Housing Closed
Ensure the small wiper disc is seated squarely against the joystick shaft pivot point. Push the green/orange potentiometer housing firmly back against the module until the plastic clips audibly click and lock flush against the joystick frame.

Reassemble and Run Calibration Test
Press the thumbstick caps back on, reconnect all ribbon cables and battery, and secure the shell screws. Connect the controller to a PC or console game pad tester to verify that the axis rest position sits dead center (0.00, 0.00) without jitter.
