โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)

1

Disassemble the Controller Housing

Use a plastic pry tool along the outer shell seams to release the snap tabs on the grips. Locate and remove all housing screws using the matching precision Torx or Phillips bit, including hidden screws behind battery bay stickers.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Front and rear plastic faceplates completely separated from the chassis
  • โ€ข All perimeter and internal housing screws arranged in a tray
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Prying too aggressively and snapping plastic clips along the grip seams
  • โ€ข Stripping security screw heads with incorrect bit sizes
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Never use metal blades to pry plastic casing; metal marrs plastic and risks puncturing internal lithium batteries.
2

Remove Thumbstick Cap and Expose Module

Disconnect the battery harness clip from the main board. Pull the plastic thumbstick cap directly upward away from the metal analog box shaft to expose the potentiometer sensors.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Bare metal analog shaft visible
  • โ€ข Plastic thumbstick cap completely detached without bending the underlying stem
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Yanking thumbstick caps at an angle, which bends the metal potentiometer shaft
  • โ€ข Tugging battery wires directly rather than grasping the plastic connector plug
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Store the disconnected battery on a clean, non-conductive surface away from screws and metal tools.
3

Pry Open Potentiometer Sensor Housing

Identify the vertical green or orange plastic sensor housing attached to the side of the metal joystick module. Insert a pry tool or tweezer tip into the top latch and gently pry it outward about 30 to 45 degrees without breaking the bottom solder joints.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Green or orange sensor flap angled open by roughly 35 degrees
  • โ€ข Internal circular metal wiper disc clearly visible inside the housing slot
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Bending the plastic flap past 60 degrees, which snaps the lower plastic hinge
  • โ€ข Prying the metal box instead of the colored side clip
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Avoid touching surface-mount components immediately adjacent to the analog box with metal tweezers.
4

Extract and Clean Wiper Disc and Carbon Track

Use tweezers to carefully lift the tiny circular metal wiper disc out from inside the housing flap. Dip a cotton swab in 99% isopropyl alcohol and thoroughly swab both the inner carbon ring on the board and the tiny metal prongs on the wiper disc, then blast with compressed air.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Tiny metal contact disc sitting clean on a lint-free surface
  • โ€ข Black carbon track inside the housing free of grey debris, grease, and hair
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Bending the micro-prongs on the metal contact disc during removal
  • โ€ข Flooding the housing with excess alcohol that dissolves inner factory lubricant
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Ensure the workspace is well-ventilated when using isopropyl alcohol and compressed air.
5

Reseat Wiper Disc and Snap Housing Closed

Grasp the cleaned wiper disc with tweezers and insert it back into the center slot of the open plastic housing with the contact prongs facing inward. Push the colored plastic flap firmly back against the metal module box until it clicks securely into place.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Green or orange sensor flap sits perfectly flush against the silver metal box
  • โ€ข No visible gaps between the plastic clip and the analog stick housing frame
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Inserting the wiper disc backwards or misaligning its center axle pin
  • โ€ข Failing to squeeze the flap until the top locking tabs fully engage
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not apply excessive force to the main circuit board while snapping the clip shut to avoid cracking the PCB.
6

Reassemble and Run Drift Calibration

Reattach the thumbstick cap, reconnect the battery harness, and fasten all internal and shell screws. Connect the controller to a PC or console controller tester application to verify the analog stick rests dead-center in the neutral zone without jitter.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข Controller fully assembled with tight, uniform seam lines
  • โ€ข Calibration software visualizer showing analog stick reticle centered at (0,0) coordinates
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Pinching rumble motor wires between inner frame and outer shell during closure
  • โ€ข Skipping software calibration/deadzone reset after hardware cleaning
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not over-tighten screws into plastic posts, as stripped threads will cause body flex.
