How to Replace a Broken TV Screen Panel

📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Prepare Workspace and Lay TV Flat
Clear a large, completely flat table and lay down a thick, clean blanket or foam mat. Disconnect the power cord and stand, then place the TV face down onto the padded surface so the screen rests flat without point pressure.

Remove Rear Chassis Enclosure
Locate and remove all perimeter and input-port screws on the rear plastic shell, sorting them by size in a magnetic tray. Insert a plastic spudger into the seam between the front bezel and rear cover, running it along the perimeter to release the snap tabs, then lift off the back cover.
- • Rear plastic housing is completely removed, fully exposing the power board, main board, and T-Con board.
- • Yanking the back cover while hidden center screws or internal speaker wires are still attached.
Disconnect Ribbon Cables and T-Con Board
Locate the flat flexible ribbon cables (LVDS/COF) running from the T-Con board to the display panel drivers. Flip up the small black retaining latches on the connectors using a spudger and gently slide the ribbon cables straight out backwards.
- • All flat ribbon connectors are cleanly detached from their sockets with locking tabs open.
- • Pulling ribbon cables before unlocking the clamping flip-bar, tearing the fragile golden contact traces.
Unclip Front Bezel and Driver Shielding
Remove the metal or plastic retention clips and perimeter screws holding the front bezel frame to the internal chassis. Carefully release the narrow PCB driver boards (source boards) from their housing slots along the edge.
- • Front bezel frame is detached and the thin driver boards hang freely along the edge.
- • Allowing the thin driver boards to dangle under strain, tearing the bonded flex films (TABs).
Extract Broken Glass and Mount Replacement Panel
Attach dual suction cups to the center quadrants of the broken glass panel and lift it straight up off the backlight diffuser layers. Place the new matching replacement panel into the chassis frame, aligning all corner registration pins and edge notches precisely.
- • Replacement panel sits completely flush within the perimeter lip without overlapping any plastic edge stops.
- • Lifting the glass by hand from the corners, causing the panel to twist and shatter.
Reconnect Ribbons, Reassemble Frame, and Test
Reseat the driver boards, snap the front bezel back into position, and insert all ribbon cables firmly into the T-Con sockets before clamping down the locking levers. Reinstall the rear cover, tighten all perimeter screws, plug in the TV, and power it on to verify the image displays correctly.
