How to Clean a PS5 Console Safely

📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Remove the Outer Faceplates
Place the console flat on a soft surface with the PlayStation logo facing up and rear ports toward you. Gently lift the top-rear corner of the plate upward and slide the entire panel firmly toward the base of the console. Flip the console over and repeat the lift-and-slide motion for the bottom cover.
- • Both white outer panels detached, exposing the black inner shell and cooling fan intake.
- • Pulling straight up with excessive force instead of sliding toward the bottom.
Vacuum Integrated Dust Catcher Ports
Locate the two triangular or rectangular dust collection holes built into the black inner casing. Place a vacuum hose directly over each port and run suction for 10-15 seconds per hole. Use a soft brush to dislodge any packed dust inside the port openings while vacuuming.
- • Dust catcher ports are completely clear of grey lint clumps and visible obstruction.
- • Blowing compressed air into the catchers, which pushes dust deeper into the heatsink.
Remove Fan Guard and Screws
Use a T8 or T9 Torx Security screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the fan guard and plastic cable cover in place. Note that these screws have different lengths; lay them out in order of removal. Lift off the metal fan guard grille and the black plastic wire cover.

Disconnect Fan Cable and Extract Fan
Carefully remove the black plastic connector cover with plastic tweezers or a spudger. Grasp the fan connector plug by its plastic housing—never by the individual colored wires—and pull straight outward from the motherboard socket. Lift the fan unit straight out of the circular chassis bay.

- • Tugging directly on the fan wires, pulling pins out of the white connector housing.
Clean Fan Blades and Internal Heatsink
Wipe individual fan blades using cotton swabs lightly dampened with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Shine a light into the empty fan chamber to inspect the internal heatsink fins. Vacuum loose dust from the heatsink intake while gently sweeping the fin edges with a dry soft brush.

- • Soaking swabs in excess alcohol, allowing liquid to drip down inside the console casing.
Reassemble Fan and Reinstall Covers
Lower the fan back into its housing and reconnect the cable plug securely into the motherboard socket. Reinstall the plastic wire shield and metal fan grille, then fasten the four Torx screws into their original matching holes. Align the white side panels slightly offset from the top and slide upward until you hear them click firmly into place.
